My Reflection on Creating a Collaborative Assignment

Learning how to do this assignment has taken my collaborative group work to a digital level.  I do provide my students with opportunities to collaborate with their peers but I have never implemented technology.  Stumbling onto Seesaw, a digital tool,  has given me a new way to introduce and reinforce concepts into my instruction through the use of technology.  With Seesaw I was able to create an assignment that will involve a scavanger hunt around the classroom in which students search for shapes.  By creating this activity and using Seesaw as the platform, students can access the assignment and begin on their own because I was able to provide audio instructions for them especially since they are pre-readers.  Seesaw is also compatible with my district approved learning management system which is Google Classroom.  Through Google Classroom I was able to provide students easy access by uploading the link onto the stream page of the platform.  Because Seesaw and Google Classroom can be linked together, it allows students to share their findings through pictures and or videos.  Because the pictures and videos are on Seesaw, families are able to view their child's portfolio and see their accomplishments.  Creating collaborative assignments engages students in discussion as well as builds team work skills.  Students are also learning critical thinking and problem solving skills as they interact with their peers to complete the hunt within the classroom.  As a prekindergarten teacher I have been implementing the use of technology through the use of iPads. Now by implementing the use of digital tools I will be able to provide instruction through technology.  This strategy will help me prepare my students with some of the 21st century skills that they need.  Creating assignments that students can complete through the use of digital tools also provides my students choice to demonstrate their understanding in a different format. Because my students are so young, incorporating these kinds of assignments in which they can perform independently will allow me to work with other students or provide one on one instruction.  Having learned how to create collaborative work digitally is something that I am definitely going to be using this upcoming school year.
