My Reflection on this Artifact

I have learned a lot about planning a project based learning unit through completing this assignment.   I have never implemented a recycling unit with my prekindergarten students so this will guide me in the right direction.  Planning a PBL in this manner really focuses on what I want my students to learn through this experience.  By planning all of the questioning ahead of time and knowing what knowledge I want my students to achieve will allow me to prepare my instruction.  Because I have the questions planned I will be able to help my students by scaffolding so that they are able to demonstrate their learning. This preparation will help me guide my students so that they use their critical thinking skills as they collaborate with their peers.  Through PBLs students acquire so many different lifelong skills and by me encouraging peer discussion they are also learning about how to provide peer feedback and building on their self-assessment skills.  Providing students instruction through PBL will allow me to step back and let my students drive their learning. Instruction through PBLs will promote autonomy and learning will be so much more meaningful. Because the learning that is gained through a PBL is authentic and meaningful students tend to retain it much longer.  This plan that I have created for a PBL in recycling is just the beginning in my planning but that means that I am already one step ahead.

Discussion 7 - How can and should schools use social media?

  How can and should schools use social media? ·          What social networking and/or social media sites do you use in your role as a school leader?  Do you feel that this is beneficial?  In what ways? What positive and negative feedback have you received from students, families, and the community?
